The workout known as MURPH is in memory of Michael P. Murphy. Michael "Murph" Murphy was a United States Navy SEAL officer who served during the War in Afghanistan. Murphy was killed in action during Operation Red Wings. Murphy was awarded the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor.

Every year in memory of Michael P. Murphy people gather on Memorial Day to attempt The MURPH Challenge which consists of a 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 body squats, and finish with another 1 mile run, all in a 20 lb. weight vest,14 lb. weight vest, or body armor.
